Case study NTFP – LAC

Parmeshwari Devi, a middle aged woman,a resident of Badkolma village in Bundu block of Ranchi district, and a mother of two children is a successful woman entrepreneur. She is one of the first entrepreneurs who started the chapter of Village Level Retail and Aggregation Centers (VLRACs) in Jharkhand.

When Udyogini first started its mobilization and campaigning in Bundu in the year 2010 for VLRACs, Parmeshwari Devi found the opportunity to create her own identity. Shewas among the first to have been trained on Enterprise Management under Intel- Udyogini School of Entrepreneurship (I-USE) in Jharkhand. She was trained in different aspects such as enterprise, market study, feasibility study, costing and pricing are a few among others. The training continued for 45 days for a period of 3 months. After successfully completing her training with Udyogini, she established her VLRACs after three months.

During the entire process, it wasn’t easy for her to be accepted as an entrepreneur in a male world. The Gender Justice Module Training helped Parmeshwari Devi to open up about her issues and bring them to a platform. This gave her strength and confidence to speak up for herself when targeted again.

Since successfully completing her training, Parmeshwari Devi aggregates local produce at fair price and also meets the retail demands of community. She aggregates 3 varieties of paddy which have different value in the market. In the peak season, she aggregates up to 3 tonnes of paddy and sells it in the block market of Bundu. With both retail and aggregation, the sale reaches up to Rs. 1 lakh in a month, earning a profit of Rs. 1500- Rs. 2000. She helps the producers by eliminating their need to travel to the market and preventing them from being cheated by middlemen. With her ever increasing success, she continues to grow individually and help the community.

Parmeshwari Devi has been inspiring other potential entrepreneurs all over Jharkhand. Her success lies in her perseverance, and will to grow as an independent woman. Her entrepreneurial skills has made her the most successful entrepreneur associated with Udyogini.
