Women for Human Rights (WHR), that works with single women victims of the insurgency in Nepal, invited Udyogini to do a rapid assessment of the needs and way forward for an independent business programme and institution/group of institution under its umbrella, to build speciality in business.
Udyogini's core competency is in business services and microenterprise development for women. One of the key strengths of Udyogini is its own micro-enterprise development work with women spread across several backward states of India, including Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand that adds to the resource-pool of practical knowledge and theory construction which is later consolidated and incorporated in its training programs. Each year it trains around 150-200 NGO personnel through its well known Training of Enterprise Support Team(TEST) program on micro-enterprise development and management which is a result of accumulation of its knowledge and experience in its own field interventions. The training is designed in an unique way using interactive simulation exercises, case studies and group work so that the participants get a stimulated learning experiences. The participants get oriented to 25 key concepts of micro-enterprise management, In brief, this is like an MBA curriculum compressed into a 5 day residential program. The methodologies are simple so that any college or even senior secondary school graduate with work experience can benefit from the program.
The TNA that was conducted by a two member Udyogini team from February 13-18. 2012 in Nepal covered the more strategic organizational aspects to establish Chhahari, an entrepreneurial initiative of WHR, in a way that would enable it to be ready to grow as a business. The orientation with twenty five widows from around the Kathmandu Valley, gave Udyogini an understanding about the livelihood of these single (mostly widowed) women.
